Christian Philosophy

Christian Philosophy is a philosophical system of thought based on reference points established by Christ. The underlying premise of Christian Philosophy is the proposition that if the writings of the new testament are true, then reality is significantly different than what we precieve it to be.  Christian Philosophy also proposes that existential emptiness along with the other great needs of human life can only be met through a loving personal intimate relationship with God as taught by Jesus Christ.

There is a well known allegory in Plato's Republic that is often referred to as Plato's Cave. Plato told the allegory to describe how people react to knowledge and philosophical truth. But the allegory is even more vivid when applied to the difference between Christian Philosophy and World-system philosophy. CIP posits that World-system philosophy is greatly restricted in its scope by the limitations of the human mind. CIP proposes that the human mind (human perception of reality) is chained to the wall inside the cave, and therefore can only evaluate the shadows it sees on the other wall. It is also posited that this condition is intrinsic to the existential nature of human beings because we are finite creatures in an infinate universe. Therefore, this problem (being chained inside the cave) can never be solved.  And human beings can no more figure out the nature of existence than an ant can figure out that the earth is round. Left to our own resources, human knowledge must always be confinded to interpretating the shadows on the wall. Therefore, CIP proposes that human knowledge is, and always will be, limited to what might be called "shadow knowledge."

Christian Philosophy is based on the premise that God is the light outside the cave. And, God - in the person of Jesus Christ - came into the cave to tell humanity about ultimate reality (the world of light outside the cave). This then creates a great philosophical divide. We must choose whether we will pursue the philosophy of the light outside the cave or whether we will pursue the philosophy inside the cave - the philosophy of the shadows.

It is a specific choice that everyone must make.  Surprisingly, the choice has more to do with the condition of our heart than our head. From the stand point of human reason, you can rationally choose either one.  But, in the reality of everyday life experience - you cannot choose both. Here is the great divide of everyone's life - a watershed that has two opposite directions of flow and your choice will determine what your life will be decades from now - and even into eternity.

Christian Philosophy is about the pursuit of the knowledge and logic contained in the light outside the cave. World-system philosophy is about trying to make sense of the shadows on the wall inside the cave

"In him was life; and the life was the light of men..."  Gospel of John 1:4

...in thy light shall we see light. Psalm 36:9
